Depart Quito at 8h00 am in the morning to arrive at the market as early as possible. Two hours north from Quito. The most famous indigenous market in Ecuador is held here. Although the market is bigger on Saturdays, you can visit friday and find an impressive variety of all kinds of Ecuadorian handcrafts. At dawn you may see indigenous people arriving the market place from many mountain trails surrounding the city. |

They come from nearby villages and towns such as Peguche, Agato and Iluman, to sell their products. One may visit the working on backstrap and Spanish treadle looms, as well as other artisans at work marking felt hats, knitting sweaters or weaving straw mats. Also stop at the small towns of Calderon where the bread dough figurines are makins, Cayambe to taste the biscuits, a little equator monument, San Pablo Lake, and arrival at the market.
